Clouds Thicken; Spotty Light Rain To Flurries; COLD Weekend
Overcast conditions continue with spotty light rain developing this evening, changing to snow flurries. A few flurries will linger into Saturday night, but the big story will be the invasion of Arctic air into the region Saturday night and Sunday. Temperatures during this period will rival the coldest that we’ve experienced all season.

Forecast Discussion
A cold front heralding the arrival of some Arctic air will be preceded by thickening cloudiness today. Spotty light rain breaking out will change to snow flurries this evening. Colder air pours into the mountains on Saturday, with a few snow flurries continuing into Saturday night. Some snow accumulation is anticipated, mainly north and west of the Asheville-Waynesville areas. However, a healthy dusting is certainly possible in the metro areas.
Lows Saturday night will be very close to the coldest we’ve had so far this season. Sunday will be bright and sunny but very cold.
After another very cold night Sunday night, sunshine on Monday will give way to more PM cloudiness as a weak storm system slides eastward through the Gulf Coast/Mid-South region. Precipitation arriving Monday night could take the form of snow until ending on Tuesday, perhaps as light rain or drizzle.
