Forecast Discussion
Currently, a weak front stretches from off the Mid-Atlantic coast west into the TN Valley. This front is mostly stationary right now, but will eventually drop south through western NC overnight. As it does so, a shower or thunderstorm may develop this evening or tonight. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy with lows in the 50's. With the front nearby on Friday, there is a very small chance of an afternoon shower or t-shower. Most will stay dry, however.
The forecast for this weekend and beyond is a bit more uncertain. In general, though, it looks like an area of low pressure will develop along the southeastern US coast over the weekend and drift slowly north along the southeast and Mid-Atlantic coastlines. This will draw drier air into the area from the north giving us a dry and pleasant weekend. However, the development and track of this low is what remains a bit uncertain. Depending on the low’s evolution, we may have to add in a shower or thunderstorm mention for this weekend in later forecasts (or at least increase the cloud cover).
Regardless of what the above-mentioned low does, another front will approach the area early next week with an increase in shower and thunderstorm activity expected.
