Fix your male dogs and cats for a really good price

On Thursday, Aug. 21, the Watauga Humane Society is making it possible to fix your male dogs and cats for $35 for a male dog (regularly $55) and $20 for a male cat (regularly $35). Rabies shots cost an additional $8. The project is offered in partnership with Humane Alliance of Asheville. Animals are transported to Asheville at no additional cost. Appointments are limited and available first come, first served, so call now for an appointment -- 828/264-7865. Regular business hours at the Watauga Humane Society Shelter are Tuesday to Friday 12:30 – 6 and Saturday and Sunday 12:30 – 5. You do not have to live in Watauga County to get this special price.

Summer Art Classes for Kids

Summer is a great time for fun and learning. Please join NC and TN certified art teacher, Melissa Jaroszewski for hands on art lessons for children ages 3 and up at the Old Mabel School in Zionville, NC. Each lesson is designed to build age appropriate skills and to enhance creativity. Children will be excited to explore different art mediums while creating their own works of art such as origami, anime, color-wheels, bookbinding, plaster casting and clay sculptures.

Elk Knob is currently building a hiking trail to the summit and needs your help. No experience is needed. Rangers will be there to work with you and to answer any questions. Activities could include any of the following...clearing brush and topsoil in trail path, creating tread, building rock wall, graveling tread, and more.
